As a family of churches, we have a vision to see thousands of lives transformed through hundreds of churches in tens of nations.
But how will this vision be achieved? Through men and women who are practically equipped, theologically trained and spiritually formed to serve the church and reach the world.
That’s why we want to invite you to consider taking part in the Commission Intern Year.

Syllabus Overview
The Commission Intern Year is comprised of 3 main elements.
Church Placement
The majority of your year will be spent on placement serving a local Commission church – whether that be part-time or full-time, in the church you were born in or somewhere you’ve never even been! This will involve serving in a particular area of ministry – whether that be youth and children’s work, student discipleship, worship ministry or another area – as well as being immersed in the overall life of the church.
Because discipleship happens best in the local church, your church placement will be a key opportunity for both personal development as you learn to manage your time and hone practical skills, and for gaining valuable ministry experience.
We have a number of churches in places like London, Woking, Bristol, Southampton, Winchester, Exeter and Torquay that would love to chat to you about serving as an Intern in a whole host of ministry areas. So if you’d like to look into the church placements available for this coming year, please contact our training team who will aim to help locate a suitable church for you.
Theological Training
Alongside church placements, we are passionate about equipping Commission Interns with robust theological training which will sustain a life serving the church and reaching the world. This element of the internship will take 3 main forms.
Residentials
Five times over the year, we’ll join together for teaching block weeks, hosted at Ascot Life Centre.
In the mornings, we’ll focus on how to study our Bibles, with sessions considering the big story of Scripture and also how we can read and apply all the different types of literature we find in our Bibles.
In the afternoons and evenings, we’ll turn our attention to spiritual formation – how we can live as faithful disciples of Jesus. That means we’ll be focussing on topics like:
- Worship
- Spiritual Gifts
- Understanding God’s grace
- Relationships
- Work and rest
- Culture and social media
And of course there will be plenty of time for fun and food in between (especially food).
Theology for Life
Interns will also join others to take part in Commission’s Level 1 training course - Theology for Life. This course is led by Duncan Sills in Winchester and Pete Clayton and Mick Taylor in Torquay. This course is a fantastic way to deepen your theological understanding and learn with other believers at different stages of life over 11 Saturdays across the year.
Wisdom Wednesdays
As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll also meet together in between residentials on Zoom for ‘Wisdom Wednesdays.’ These will usually be one hour morning sessions where we’ll have the chance to test out our learning through studying the Bible together, and every so often we’ll invite in some more excellent speakers to share their wisdom with us.
Dates and times for these will be confirmed at your first residential in September.
Discipleship and Formation
The final element of the Commission Intern Year is in many ways the most important – your spiritual formation as a disciple of Jesus. We want you to leave the year with more than just knowledge and experience, but with a heart changed by encounter with the living God and a life shaped around his purpose.
This means that as an intern you’ll receive supervision and mentoring, from leaders in your church and at residential weeks, who will encourage and support your spiritual growth and discipleship throughout the year.
We also offer all Commission Interns an invitation to serve at our Commission events: 20s & 30s, The Children’s Worker Conference and The Leaders Conference. This is always a lot of fun and a great team bonding time, as well as an opportunity to really bless our Commission family of churches.
Who can apply?
The Commission Intern Year is open to anyone who’d like to devote a year of their life to serving the church and growing as a disciple, whatever your age or life stage! There are no entry requirements and we are designing this year to be a season of growth for all, regardless of how long you’ve been a Christian or how you might learn.
If you’d like to explore whether this year might be the right fit for you, our course leader Simon Argent would love to chat to you. Simon is an elder at Ascot Life Church (where he was once an intern himself!) and you can contact him at simon@ascotlife.church.

What our Students say…
“My favourite thing has been how much we connect with God. It's not just pen and paper. Whether that is worshipping with 8 interns and a guitar or whether that is sporadically praying at work when something comes up, it's brilliant to not just be studying about God but meeting with him”
“Loving getting stuck in with church life and being able to serve the church as my job (how cool is that??). Particularly enjoying the theology teaching we get as part of the internship and being able to see more of Jesus in the Old Testament!!”
“I would encourage EVERYONE to do an internship year! It is a hard year, but it is such a great opportunity to grow spiritually and serve the local church and meet amazing people.”
