Commission is partnering with Union School of Theology (UST) to facilitate advanced theological study at Masters level. The Master of Theology (MTh), is designed for current leaders who want to grow through serious theological and applied study.
Combining both academic and spiritual formation, the MTh gives leaders the opportunity to deepen their biblical, theological and pastoral knowledge while also strengthening their practical ministry skills. Delivered through intensive weeks based at our Union Learning Community at Westminster Chapel, London, students benefit from the world class teaching of Union’s faculty along with the guidance and practical mentoring of Commission’s training team, led by Tim Blaber.
Who is it for?
The MTh is designed for those serving in leadership positions including elders, preachers, teachers, pastors and full-time gospel workers.
Applicants should typically have already undertaken study in theology at undergraduate degree level. However, alternative routes can also be considered, including consideration of previous training programmes, further details are below.
What will it cover?
The programme provides advanced training in biblical studies, theological and historical studies, as well as pastoral and missional studies, with an emphasis on teaching and preaching ministries.
Teaching and assessments are delivered by UST’s lecturers including Mike Reeves, Clive Bowsher, John Evans, Dan Hames and Don Fairbairn.
Modules:
Spiritual Formation of the Leader (Mike Reeves)
Scripture and Hermeneutics (Mike Reeves and John Evans)
Soteriology of the Reformation (Team)

2024/2025 dates

Monday 10th - Thursday 13th March 2025
How will it work?
Students on the MTh study alongside each other in the Learning Community based at Westminster Chapel in London.
The teaching will be delivered in 2 intensive block-teaching weeks per year, one in September and one in March. Each module is completed in one intensive week. Lectures are delivered through tailor-made video lectures, while discussion and activities are facilitated by Tim Blaber and Adam Watson.
Teaching weeks run from Monday to Thursday, 10.00am-5.30pm
Following completion of the taught modules, a dissertation is undertaken. The taught elements and the dissertation must be completed within 4 years. Should a student miss a module, or be required to resit it, they may be asked to travel to Union's campus in Wales to do so.
Students have access to teaching materials, resources and eBooks through Union’s Cloud platform that supports them in learning and assessments, and they can also communicate regularly with lecturers.
Assessments are typically carried out through one 5,000-word essay per module (to be submitted 8 weeks after the intensive learning week), followed by a 15,000-word dissertation in the fourth year.

Scholarships
We are keen to ensure that no one is prevented from enrolling onto a training course due to financial obstacles, therefore we have the potential to make Commission Scholarships available to those for whom it best serves. When a scholarship is requested, we will then seek the input of church leaders, to help us evaluate suitability, we will also factor in previous participation and performance in Commission training courses etc. All previous and future scholarships are awarded following interviews with members of the UK Team, who will make their decisions following input from church leaders in addition to the strength of each individual application.
