Ghana Church Plant: The Story So Far

Part 3: The Business (Part 1 / Part 2)

Included in the strategy to plant a Commission Church in Ghana is the idea to start a business. This is so that, in the long run, my family and I can become financially independent. We are of course grateful for all the financial support we currently receive from the Ghana Church plant team, Grace Church (Salisbury) and loved ones but ultimately, becoming financially independent has been part of our plan for planting a Church in Ghana from day one.

With the above in mind, we quickly started researching various business ventures to find suitable ones we could do. In the process we came across a variety of businesses that seemed like good options but we had one criterion that we felt was important to meet, which was to only do something that would give us enough spare time to do the main thing we are in Ghana for—'to plant a church’.

Having considered everything, we felt that pig farming (given our context) stood out among the various options we looked at. So, in April 2021, we started Eustace @ Grace Farms, a piggery business. The business model is to breed, fatten and sell high quality and healthy pigs for both meat for consumption and breeders for other farmers.

One of the main reasons for choosing pig farming as our business is it has potential, both in terms of its market size and also in terms of employability. We have a heart to help the youth find employment here in Ghana as unemployment is very high in our communities (including those attending Grace Community Church).

It’s been two years since we started Eustace @ Grace Farms. Although we have encountered some teething problems which have slowed our progress and delayed us from achieving most of our initial objectives, we still think and believe that pig farming is a good business to operate alongside the Church plant.

We wish that results at this point had been much more positive. Nevertheless, we believe that once these teething problems have been overcome and with God’s help, we shall begin to see positive results soon.

With God’s help, and with your prayers and support, we are determined to give our best to grow this business so that as soon as possible we can become independent financially whilst at the same time providing job opportunities to many in our community, especially the youth.

So, as you pray for us as a family and for Grace Community Church, for God’s grace and protection and strength to carry on the work he has called us to do, please do remember our business in your prayers too. Pray that our business will properly take off and become a blessing to us and to the Kingdom of God.

Greetings from Grace Community Church, Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana to you all. God bless us all.

As we push forward in all that God has called us to in Ghana, prayer is key, for Ghana, Eustace and his family and the Grace Community Church, Ghana. A WhatsApp group has been setup to share prayer requests and news. If you’d like to be added to this group, please email office@gracechurchuk.org with your name, phone number, church and permission to be added to the WhatsApp group.
