Equipping the Administrators
At the end of October 2024, about 40 administrators, operational staff and lead elders from across Commission churches gathered together in Eastleigh for our annual ‘Equipping the Administrators’ conference.
The Purpose
Equipping the Administrators exists to resource the fundamental work of operations and strategic leadership within our churches, providing a forum to learn, share knowledge and support each other.
Like with any leadership role, hiring a church administrator primarily focusses on an individual’s character and calling rather than a checklist of skillsets. Some administrators, therefore, find themselves in this role without any specific relevant experience gained previously.
Our hope is that Equipping the Administrators will go some way to plugging these gaps by forming helpful friendships and working connections that share experiences, hopes, failures and solutions from our contexts.
This is the fifth year Commission has run this conference, and they are always so encouraging and helpful giving us opportunity to learn from a key speaker and access the range and depth of skill and gift in the room - it always blows me away!
Releasing the giftings of others
We had Gavin Smith (https://www.thechurchoffice.co.uk/) with us for the day, who shared about how administrators serve with love in order to care well for their church family and release their giftings. Gavin spoke to us about working for the glory of God and it was so good to be reminded of this overarching priority - both from a biblical perspective, and from Gavin’s many years of practical experience and wisdom.
In the afternoon Gavin spoke to us again, this session about how to release and enable our church family together to see his purposes fulfilled. One of the key questions he posed was ‘How do you move from vision to delivery?’, and by the end Gavin had given us a fantastic toolkit for working this through, with great encouragement to seek God and look to release the gifting in those around you whom you are serving.
